Hi Friends,
We’re so excited to be launching Drops of Torah with you! As the start date for the new Torah cycle approaches, we wanted to share answers to some of the most commonly asked questions. If you’re new here or just need a refresher, this guide is for you.
Commonly Asked Questions
1. Do I need a specific version of the Torah text?
Great question! If you already have a Chumash (that’s the printed book containing the Five Books of Moses) or access to a Torah text you use regularly, feel free to continue with that. For Drops of Torah, we’ll be linking each aliyah directly to Sefaria, where you can view the Hebrew and English side by side. You’re welcome to follow in any version you feel most comfortable with.
2. How does the daily reading schedule work?
Each week’s parsha (Torah portion) is divided into seven sections, called aliyot (literally “ascents”). Traditionally, these aliyot are the parts read aloud in the synagogue when people are called up to the Torah during the week and on Shabbat.
For Drops of Torah, we use these seven aliyot as natural “daily portions”: Rishon (Sunday), Sheni (Monday), Shelishi (Tuesday), Revi’i (Wednesday), Chamishi (Thursday), and then Shishi together with Shevi’i (Friday)

On Fridays, we’ll also include a Shabbat Prep Drop, finishing the parsha with the last 2 aliyots and sharing one Melacha of Shabbat (this is a category of creative work the Torah tells us to refrain from on Shabbat). Each week you’ll get a short, easy-to-understand explanation of one melacha, plus a little reflection on how it connects to the spirit of rest.
3. Do I have to read the full text every day?
Not at all. Each email/text is designed to be short and accessible. You can read just the summary and reflection, or go deeper by clicking through to the full aliyah on Sefaria. The goal is steady progress, drop by drop.
4. What if I miss a day?
No worries! Each drop is independent and easy to catch up on. You can always jump back in with the next day’s aliyah. The Torah cycle itself runs weekly, so as long as you’re connecting with the parsha during the week, you’re right on track.
5. Can I share Drops of Torah with friends?
Absolutely 💧. Each email and WhatsApp drop will include a simple invite link so you can forward it. Torah is meant to be shared!
6. Is there a cost to join?
No, Drops of Torah is free to access. Our mission is to make daily Torah learning simple, beautiful, and accessible for everyone.
7. What if I want to go deeper?
Perfect! We’ll be suggesting optional resources (like articles or classic commentaries on Sefaria) if you want to dive in beyond the daily drops.
